National Wine Day in Moldova
More than 60 wine producers will present the product of national pride in the framework of the 17th day of Wine
National Wine Day will be held on 6 and 7 October. This year the festival will be attended by a record number of Moldovan wine producers – more than 60-who will present the product of national pride and millennial winemaking traditions on the Square of the Great national Assembly. The 17th national Wine Day will be held under the slogan ” Wine of Moldova. Heartily” and will be dedicated to wines with Protected Geographical Indication (IGP). Visitors will be encouraged to discover the Wine of Moldova and support its conscious and responsible consumption.
Georgy Arpentin, Director of the national Bureau of Grapes and Wine: “Held for the fifth consecutive year under the wine brand of the country “wine of Moldova. Living legend”, national Wine Day 2018 will be dedicated to wineries from regions with Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) – there will be 15 more than last year. Visitors will be presented for wine tasting with OSU, which is a sign of quality, the quintessence of traditions and love for winemaking, as well as a guarantee of the authenticity of the product. The guests will have two interesting days, because the wine festival is also a rich cultural program.”
For two days in the center of the capital 60 winemakers will offer to taste the Wine of Moldova from all over the country.
The area of the Great national Assembly will be divided into several zones, including the Town of folk artists, which will host an exhibition of Handicrafts and a Peasant court, where you can watch the process of making homemade wine. And wanting to discover the variety of Wines from Moldova are waiting for wine tours throughout the country. Within the framework of the traditional Wine School, a series of master classes will be held under the guidance of professional sommeliers, who will acquaint participants with the subtleties of proper Wine consumption in Moldova. Festive events will open a parade of participating winemakers in the festival, which will end with folk dances. For two days, folk ensembles from different regions of the country will perform on the stage, and the evenings will be held in the company of well-known Moldovan groups and performers.
For the first time in the history of the festival, the national Wine Day will be held simultaneously in Moldova and abroad.

Every year this holiday is becoming more popular outside the country, so in 2018 the national Wine Day will be held in Romania. We hope that thanks to the Wine of Moldova, our country will become an important wine destination on the tourist map of the world.”
Or rather, in the first weekend of October (5-7 October), the national Wine Day will be held in the Romanian city Snagov. More than 20 Moldovan winemakers will present their products under the single brand ” Wine of Moldova. A living legend”, and visitors will be able to taste
hundreds of protected Geographical indication (IGP) wines. The cultural program of the event will include performances of well-known Moldovan groups: “Zdob şi Zdub”and” Carla’s Dreams”. National Wine Day in synagogue will be broadcast on screens installed in the Great National Assembly Square. Meanwhile, in the heart of the Moldovan capital will work stand winemakers from Romania – the country-guest of the National Wine Day. Tasting the most famous Romanian wines, visitors of the stand will be able to make an imaginary journey through the wine regions of the neighboring country.
Doina Nistor, Director of the Competitiveness Project in Moldova, funded by USAID and the government of Sweden: “the national Wine Day is a heartfelt celebration for the wine sector and for the whole country, and we promote it as the largest wine festival in Eastern Europe to support exports and the flow of tourists. Most of the wineries participating in the festival are the beneficiaries of our project, providing them with effective programs, support for marketing promotion and development of enotourism, and all this helps them to become catalysts for economic growth in rural areas. We will celebrate for the 17th time the living legend of the national wine heritage and promote the image of our country in the target export markets, as well as at the local level.”
The organizers of the national Wine day are the national Bureau of Grapes and Wine, the Ministry of Agriculture, regional development and environment, the Chisinau City hall, the Association of wine producers with OGK “Codru”, “Valul lui Traian”, “Stefan Vodă”, “Divin”, with the support of the strategic partner of the event, the Competitiveness project of Moldova, funded by the USAID and the government of Sweden.
