Drinks of the Latvian winery won silver at the international competition Cider World 2019 in Frankfurt

RIGA, Apr 6 – Sputnik. One of the most serious world competitions of apple drinks was held on March 30, in Frankfurt, Germany. Latvian winery Abavas presented at the competition its products and was able to conquer a serious international jury, according to the winery page on Facebook.

More than 500 drinks from manufacturers from different countries were presented at the competition. The jury consisted of food industry professionals from around the world: teachers, as well as wine and HoReCa experts (catering and hotel industry).

According to Abavas, the selection criteria were tough, but the ноbols apiņos sparkling wine presented by a Latvian winery and Premuim Brut cider managed to win silver medals.

Sparkling wine Ābols apiņos received 105 points out of the maximum possible 108, and Premium Brut cider – 99 points.

The victory of the Abavas winery in such a prestigious competition provides ample opportunities for the popularization of Latvian drinks all over the world, opening up new markets and attracting buyers from around the world.

In addition, Abavas reports that it has previously received recognition in Latvia, where it won the annual award of the Kurzeme Tourism Association Lielais Jēkabs as the best tourist attraction in the category “Tasting tourism in Kurzeme 2018”.

It is worth noting that this is not the first big victory for Latvian winemakers. In 2018, at the international competition for cider SISGA 2018 – Salon Internacional de les Sidres de Gala in Spain, the prize was won by the non-carbonated semi-dry apple cider Mr.Plūme from the Latvian manufacturer Mr.Plūme sidra darītava.

The owner of the company, Maris Plume, then said that the Spaniards were pleasantly surprised that in such a small country as Latvia, which has no tradition of making cider and old recipes, drinks are produced that stood out from the rest with their quality and originality.
